For Kings Dominion's 50th anniversary season, the park turned to Bolliger & Mabillard's wing-coaster platform — trains with seats mounted on either side of the track rather than beneath it — and pushed the format to a new scale, building the world's tallest and longest launched wing coaster inside Jungle X-Pedition.

Rapterra frames the ride around the fictional discovery of a Jungle Hawk shrine, a temple where ancient leaders were said to become spiritually linked to a bird of prey's speed and ferocity, until a nearby volcano called Mt. Inferna collapsed and buried the site under volcanic rock. An electromagnetic launch — Kings Dominion's marketing leans hard into the raptor-attack comparison — accelerates riders to 65 mph in four seconds, straight out of the station with no lift hill, before sending wing-seated trains 145 feet above the jungle floor into a dive loop, a flat-spin corkscrew, and a closing 360-degree "raptor roll."

The 3,086-foot layout runs for 89 seconds across two 20-passenger trains, and its combination of launch speed, height, and three inversions immediately made it the record holder in its category worldwide — a title B&M's wing-coaster design had not previously claimed at this scale.

Rapterra opened March 29, 2025, giving Jungle X-Pedition its second flagship steel coaster alongside the giga now known as Pantherian and cementing the land's transformation from the park's original 1970s Lion Country Safari footprint into a modern thrill-ride destination.
