Dominator

Dominator's history starts far from Virginia. Bolliger & Mabillard built it in 2000 as Batman: Knight Flight, a floorless coaster anchoring the Gotham City section of Six Flags Ohio — the rebranded Geauga Lake, near Cleveland — as part of a $40 million expansion that added four new coasters in a single season.

When Cedar Fair bought the park in 2004 and restored its original Geauga Lake name, the company's lack of a DC Comics license forced a wave of retheming: Batman: Knight Flight lost its bat-signal trains, station branding, and seatback logos to become the more generic Dominator. The ride operated for three more seasons under that name before Cedar Fair announced in September 2007 that Geauga Lake's amusement-park side would close for good, with only its water park continuing on.

Rather than scrap the B&M floorless outright, Kings Dominion relocated Dominator to a vacant bus lot behind the old Berserker flat ride on International Street, repainting the track orange while keeping its supports dark blue and its signature vertical loop yellow. It reopened to the public on May 24, 2008, giving the park's entry plaza a coaster with five inversions and a loop the manufacturer counts among the largest vertical loops ever built.

At 4,210 feet, Dominator holds the record as the world's longest floorless roller coaster — a title it has carried since its Ohio days and kept intact through the move, even as its Gotham City backstory and Batman branding disappeared for good.
