May 1 · Kent and Dawn Buescher open the Valdosta zoo-park on former farmland after Liberty Farms petting-zoo beginnings.

Splash Island water park opens
May 1 · Largest expansion to date — Polynesian-themed water park included with park admission.
2007
Herschend acquires Wild Adventures
Sep 25 · Herschend purchases the park out of Adventure Parks Group bankruptcy proceedings for about $34.4 million.
