Adventure Express

Arrow Dynamics built several mine-train coasters through the 1970s and 1980s, and by 1991 Kings Island wanted one for Rivertown that could carry a themed narrative rather than a generic runaway-train premise.

Adventure Express casts its train as a tour vehicle operated by the fictional Arrow Cargo Co., guiding riders past faux Sol Spin ruins and a bustling port-town set before the story turns: the train veers onto an abandoned "Track 2" route through a closed, ancient track system deep in the woods. Multiple lift hills, tight tunnels, and a compact 1,970-foot layout build a sense of a routine tour gone wrong within just a few minutes.

The ride's mine-train format and story-driven queue made it one of Rivertown's more immersive family attractions when it opened in 1991, predating Kings Island's later, larger-budget theming efforts on rides like Banshee and Mystic Timbers.

Adventure Express remains a 48-inch-minimum bridge attraction for families — less intense than Rivertown's headlining wood and steel coasters but still carrying a fuller backstory than most rides of its era and size.
