Steel Curtain

Kennywood announced an unprecedented partnership with the Pittsburgh Steelers in July 2018, revealing plans for Steel Curtain as the anchor of Steelers Country, a new themed area built around the NFL franchise rather than a fictional storyline. S&S Worldwide designed the coaster to set records rather than simply fit a theme, and construction proceeded through the 2018–2019 offseason across 4,000 feet of track crossing the park's midways and its lagoon.

Steel Curtain opened to the public on July 13, 2019 after a media day the day before, immediately becoming Pennsylvania's tallest coaster at 220 feet and delivering a 205-foot drop straight out of its first inversion — the world's tallest inversion at 197 feet. Nine total inversions gave the ride the most of any coaster in North America at the time, edging out competing claims about whether one banana-roll element should count as one or two due to its unusual double-inverting shape.

A vertical lift hill launches trains directly into the record-setting opening inversion rather than a traditional drop, an unusual structural choice that also produces a distinctive airtime hill with a zero-gravity stall passing directly beneath the lift structure.

Steel Curtain remains Kennywood's tallest, fastest coaster and one of the most heavily record-setting American coasters of the 2010s, anchoring Steelers Country alongside the Steelers Experience and Endzone Cafe.
