Busch Gardens Tampa Bay closed its Tanganyika Tidal Wave water ride and, in September 2018, announced a compact new launch coaster for the same Stanleyville footprint, reusing much of the site's existing infrastructure and landscaping. Premier Rides supplied a Sky Rocket II model — the same launch-coaster platform the manufacturer had already installed at several other parks — themed to a tiger rather than the generic branding used elsewhere.

Tigris opened April 19, 2019 after a short soft-opening window earlier that month, becoming the park's ninth coaster. The ride launches to 62 mph and climbs 150 feet into a non-inverting loop before a quick inline twist, covering just 883 feet of track in well under a minute — one of the shortest, most concentrated layouts in the park's lineup. At launch, Busch Gardens marketed its inversion as Florida's tallest.

Sitting directly beside SheiKra's holding brake, Tigris gives Stanleyville a second high-intensity ride within view of the first, letting the park cluster its most extreme attractions into a single compact corner rather than spreading them across the property.

Tigris remains one of Tampa's shortest but most re-ridden coasters, its low queue-to-ride-time ratio making it a favorite for guests stacking multiple laps in a single visit.
