Coaster types
A stand-up coaster puts riders in a standing position with a bicycle-style seat and restraints. The track may look like a conventional steel coaster, but forces hit differently: laterals push against your legs, and airtime can feel like a drop through your knees rather than a lift out of a chair.
Stand-ups are less common than they were in the 1980s–90s. Some parks converted or retired them; others still market the unique stance. Comfort varies widely by train design — modern soft restraints and better padding help, but the style remains polarizing among enthusiasts.
If a coaster page lists stand-up as the type, expect a different comfort profile than an inverted or floorless ride with similar height. Log how your legs felt afterward; that feedback matters more here than raw speed stats.
