Held drops and dive moments
When the train pauses before the fall, anticipation becomes part of the element.
A held drop stops or creeps the train at the top of a steep descent before releasing. Psychologically it lengthens the drop even when the track is fixed.
Dive coasters are the obvious example, but held moments appear on tilt coasters, some towers, and themed drops.
If heights bother you, breathe through the hold — the force profile after release is often smoother than the anticipation suggests.
