Background

Dollywood built Wildwood Grove as its largest expansion project in years, a storybook-themed land aimed squarely at families with young children, and Dragonflier was designed as one of the anchor rides for the new area rather than a standalone addition.

Vekoma supplied a Suspended Family Coaster — a compact model that hangs cars beneath the track and lets them swing side to side through the turns — dressed with dragonfly-shaped trains that fit the whimsical, nature-inspired Wildwood Grove setting. The layout keeps its 31-foot height and 23 mph top speed gentle enough for riders as young as 38 inches tall, giving families a coaster credit well below the intensity of Dollywood's larger steel rides.

Dragonflier opened May 10, 2019, alongside the rest of Wildwood Grove's opening-day lineup, giving the park a suspended family coaster to pair with the larger Big Bear Mountain that would follow in the same land years later.

The ride continues to serve as an entry-level suspended-coaster experience within Wildwood Grove, popular with families working through the land's rides in sequence before tackling its taller neighbors.
