Elements & inversions
A rollback happens when a launched train lacks the speed to clear a tall spike or top hat and reverses through the launch. Modern systems are designed for this: anti-rollbacks, block logic, and re-launch programs handle the reverse move.
Rollbacks are uncommon on a tuned ride and more likely in cold weather, with heavy trains, or right after maintenance. Crowds cheer; ops reset and try again.
If you chase launches, a rollback is a memorable ops story — not a failure of the physics guides. Log it if it happens; it is part of how some accelerator coasters behave at the edge of their energy budget.
